The only animal category that can use fibrous industrial by-products and roughage is cattle. Loders Croklaan developed a range of ingredients to optimize the intake and rumination of these fibrous products.
To optimize nutritional value, enzymes and microbes can be added to assist the ruminal flora with the breakdown of the so-called non-starch polysaccharides (NSP’s) contained in fibrous products.
Bypass fat and bypass oil can also be added to optimize rumination. Bypass fat boosts the energy intake without interfering with the fermentation process in the rumen. Bypass oil can be used as an anti-dust agent in cattle premixes and concentrates and is a welcome alternative to mineral oils, which are increasingly controversial (dioxin affair, indigestibility).
The percentage of fibrous products in the ration can influence the intake. To synchronize and optimize intake and prevent selection of specific elements by the cattle, a large variety of highly palatable flavors is available.
